Bebb’s Willow

Salix bebbiana • Beaked willow, long-beaked willow and diamond willow


A small tree or tall shrub that typically grows between 1-6 meters tall. It tends to be a fast-growing, multiple-stemmed shrub capable of forming dense thickets. Bebb’s willow is native to Canada and the northern United States. It can be found in loose, saturated soils such as on riverbanks, lakesides, swamps, marshes, and bogs. It is capable of tolerating heavy clay and rocky soils, making it highly adaptable and durable.

6-8 mm capsules, on 2-5 mm stalks in loose catkins, small seeds that are released in June-July


Tiny, in yellowish axils, 1-3 mm bracts, unisexual with male and female flowers on seperate trees.
