A small shrub with vine-like stems, usually grows  to about 2 inches tall. It is widespread in the northern hemisphere; including northern Europe and North America. It typically occurs in cooler climates and is an indicator of coniferous swamps. Small cranberry enjoys moist to wet soils and grows in bogs, fens and moist forest habitat. May also grow in saturated peat environments. May be confused with Large cranberry, main difference between the two is the size of the berry produced.
