White Mulberry

Morus alba


White mulberry is a fast growing, small to medium sized tree which typically reaches up to 20 meters tall. It is native to northern China however it is widely cultivated and naturalized in North America. It can be found in open, disturbed sites and near forest edges. It does well in urban environments and is often confused with red mulberry, but fruits are white, and non-native.


Leaves light green, shiny and mostly hairless. Can be unlobed or variably lobed. Widest below the middle of the leaf. Yellow in fall.


White, reddish or purplish-black blackberry-like berries. Hang in clusters. Matures in June-July.


Tiny and green. Male and female flowers in separate clusters on the same or different tree.
